Have a Restful Easter Break!

Dear Ascension Public Schools Families,

As we go into the Easter Break, I would like to take a moment, once again, to express gratitude to everyone who contributed to a successful school year thus far. When students return on Monday, April 12, 2021, there will be less than six weeks left of the 2020-21 school year. These last few weeks will be critical in making 2020-21 the best it can be.

There are a few very important reminders as we close out the school year. State testing will begin in late April. Specific information and testing dates will be communicated by your child's school. We know our students have worked hard this year and our teachers have exhausted themselves in preparing students for these annual assessments. We are confident that the effort of our students will be their very best and the results will provide us with a clear path forward in affirming areas of student mastery as well as providing us the opportunity to identify areas where students need additional support. As it is each year, the results from these assessments become an essential resource for decision-making as we strategically plan instructional services both this summer and for the next school year.

Schools are beginning to plan for summer enrichment programs, camps, and traditional summertime activities. At this time, we are using current guidelines as we prepare to offer a menu of activities on our campuses. You will receive information from your school about these summertime opportunities and activities based on current guidelines. As guidelines are adjusted in the weeks or months ahead, we will adjust accordingly.
We anticipate guidance regarding safe operations for the 2021-22 school year in the near future. As this guidance unfolds, we will provide you with the details regarding our processes and guidelines for school operations. We will continue to follow guidance from the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Louisianan Department of Education, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, the Louisiana Department of Health, and the State Fire Marshall's Office when operating schools, athletics, and school-related events. Also, please remember, the 2021-22 calendar has been approved.

In closing, we are looking forward to year-end celebrations, especially our Class of 2021 commencement exercises. At this time, we anticipate holding graduation ceremonies at our high school stadiums with limited and ticketed attendance. Details regarding the number of tickets will depend upon the State Fire Marshall guidelines at the time of our ceremonies, May 12-14, 2021. Be on the lookout for information from your respective schools just as soon as that is available.

We wish you and your family a safe Easter Break with many opportunities to unplug, rest, and recharge. Then, when we return, let’s continue to work together to make April and May the best months of what has already been to point, a great school year!
