FIELD TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS

TRANSPORTATION REGULATIONS

REGULATIONS

1.

It is recommended that principals or assistant principals use a rotating method allowing each of the drivers assigned to their school to accept or reject the field trip.  If all drivers refuse, the principal shall have a list of drivers from feeder schools to contact on a rotating basis.  Each school should be given a list of drivers who are willing or available to take field trips.  The list shall state (a) in-parish (b) out-of-parish. St. Theresa and Ascension Catholic shall use the same procedures.

2.

Only School Board owned buses will be used if a class or group requests a school bus for a field trip.  Contract drivers may be used for field trips, but they will use Board-owned buses for the trips.  Drivers will be paid $10.00 per hour for the trips. They will receive this pay through the district payroll system, as part of their next monthly paycheck.

3.

When a school submits the pay for a bus driver on a field trip, it will submit $10 per hour for the driver, an appropriate amount for benefits, plus $1.50 per mile for bus expenses.

4.

When making a trip on weekends or holidays, the driver will be paid for the hours that he/she is driving the bus or on call.

CHAPERONES

Principals, drivers, and students shall be the only persons allowed to ride on school busses, except on special trips or for exceptions by the Transportation Office.  The following criteria apply to the assignment of chaperones:

-

Only those chaperones who are needed should be allowed to go.  Extra chaperones should not be allowed just because they would like to go.

-

An adult, in addition to the driver, must be on each bus the entire time students are on the bus during extra trips.
