SPECIAL PROGRAMS

DYSLEXIA

The Ascension Parish School Board will provide for the implementation of a program under which students enrolled in the public schools in Ascension Parish shall be tested for dyslexia and related disorders as may be necessary.  The program shall provide that upon the request of a parent, student, school nurse, classroom teacher, or other school personnel who has reason to believe that a student has a need to be tested for dyslexia or other related disorders, such student shall be referred to the School Building Level Committee for review and assessment, as needed for appropriate services.

The Ascension Parish School Board shall provide remediation in an appropriate multi-sensory, systematic language-based regular education program and/or programs pertinent to the child's physical and educational disorders or the sensory areas in need of remediation for those students who do not qualify for special education services.  The Ascension Parish School Board shall ensure that programs for dyslexic students meet state regulations.
