MILITARY LEAVE
The Ascension Parish School Board shall grant military leave to employees of the Board upon proper submission of application for such leave. Leave with pay for military purposes, not to exceed fifteen (15) working days in one (1) calendar year, shall be granted to 12-month employees or to employees called to emergency duty during the school year. Leave without pay shall be granted when leave is for more than fifteen (15) working days or to other employees who do not qualify for leave with pay. All requests for military leave shall be presented to the Board for approval and must be accompanied by proper documents attesting to call to duty. Active duty or training sessions shall be scheduled during the summer months, whenever possible.
An employee on extended military leave (longer than fifteen (15) days) must apply for reinstatement of his/her former position within thirty (30) days after end of leave; he/she shall then be reinstated at the salary then in force in the salary schedule. The Board may transfer the employee to a position of comparable status if, in the opinion of the Board, such action is beneficial to the school system.
