What is Teach Ascension Academy?

  • Ascension Public Schools is an “A” school system that is committed to providing each student the high-quality education necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world.
  • In 2007, the district began implementation of the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP). The TAP system incorporates four research-based elements of success as their means of improving instruction and the achievement of students:  multiple career paths, ongoing applied professional growth, instructionally focused accountability, and performance-based compensation.
  • Teach Ascension Academy, Ascension’s district-based teacher certification program, incorporates the elements of TAP, which have proven to increase the quality of instruction and student achievement, to prepare new teachers to teach in Ascension schools.

Minimum enrollment Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5  or higher as evidenced by an official transcript
  • Have passing scores on PRAXIS I (or equivalent ACT/SAT score) and PRAXIS II (content knowledge) for the designated area in which the teacher will be teaching
  • Be selected into the program after participating in a rigorous selection process

Selection Process

  • Teach Ascension Academy is a highly selective program.  During the first year of implementation, approximately 20% of all applicants were offered a position in the program.
  • The selection process will consist of a written application, a writing sample, a teaching sample, a data analysis task, a video review, and an individual interview.
  • Candidates that demonstrate the potential to be effective educators will be offered admittance into the program.

Initial Training
