DISPLACED STUDENTS

Every effort is being made to give students the opportunity to continue their education with the teachers and classmates they began the school year with. Displaced students should follow one of the following options:

  1. My student relocated to another part of the parish, wants to continue attending school with his/her home school and we can provide own transportation to and from school according to the district’s plan. YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO ANYTHING BUT SHOW UP TO SCHOOL ON AUG. 29.
  2. My student relocated to another part of the parish, wants to continue attending school with his/her home school and we cannot provide transportation to and from school according to the district’s plan: CLICK HERE TO REQUEST AN IN-PARISH ROUTE CHANGE. Please understand that making this request does not guarantee we will be able to provide transportation. If your request can be accommodated, bus route changes will not be implemented until some time after the Labor Day holiday. Your child will not be penalized if he/she cannot attend until Labor Day due to transportation issues.
  3. My student relocated to another part of the parish and wants to enroll at the local school instead of his/her home school. PLEASE REGISTER IN PERSON AT THE SCHOOL YOU WANT TO ENROLL ON THURSDAY, AUG. 25 (8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) OR FRIDAY, AUG. 26 (8:30 a.m. – Noon).

TRANSPORTATION

Bus routes will remain the same as the start of school for at least the first week back to school. If your student cannot be picked up and dropped off at the original site and you cannot drive your student to school, please click here to request an in-parish route change. Please understand that making this request does not guarantee we will be able to provide transportation. If your request can be accommodated, bus route changes will not be implemented until some time after the Labor Day holiday. Your child will not be penalized if he/she cannot attend until after Labor Day due to transportation issues.

CAMPUS TRAFFIC PLANS

Each impacted campus is developing a traffic plan in consultation with engineers that will be communicated to parents by the school. We will post those plans here as they become available.

LIVING OUTSIDE OF THE PARISH

If your child attends an Ascension Parish school but you evacuated and are temporarily living outside of Ascension Parish, your child can still attend his/her school. You will be responsible for transporting your child to and from school, as we cannot provide bus transportation outside of the parish. If there are barriers preventing you from transporting your child to and from school, please contact your school to explore alternate educational delivery options.

IMPACTED CAMPUSES IN RECOVERY

Galvez Middle, Galvez Primary, Lake Elementary, St. Amant Primary and St. Amant High campuses are closed to all employees and the public while under flood remediation and restoration. These are considered demolition worksites and pose safety risks. It is too early in the process to speculate on timelines for restoration, but it will vary by campus. Once the district has an accurate estimate on reinstatement of a campus, that will be communicated.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

All students attending Ascension Public Schools are required to wear school uniforms; however, there will be a grace period for impacted students. Please contact your school if your child needs uniforms. SCHOOL CALENDAR AND MAKE UP DAYS

Due to the nature of this emergency situation, the Louisiana Department of Education is allowing some flexibility for our schools in regards to required educational hours for the year. Every effort will be made to make up missed days by adding minutes to the daily schedule for the year. At this point, no changes are being made to the academic calendar, which can be viewed online here: http://www.apsb.org/page/school-calendars

DONATIONS

Donations of schools supplies and school uniforms can be dropped off at our warehouse from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at 932 W. Orice Roth Rd. in Gonzales.
