Dear Ascension Public Schools Family,
Last August, almost one year ago to date, our community experienced an event that challenged us like never before, at least in recent memory. The Flood of 2016 continues to have a far reaching impact on what we do and how we live. But as the days go by, the memories of this event become more and more crowded with pictures of courage, faith, and hope rather than that of tragedy.
This event touched us all in some way or another. Within days, citizens, businesses, industries, individuals, and of course, our own staff members were either directly affected by the flood, or opened their doors and their hearts to those in need. The spirit of teamwork, service to others, and generosity in Ascension and in the surrounding communities remains heartwarming and humbling in our memory. We know that many of you are still recovering, as we are here in our school system. Yet, the progress of our schools this past year simply could not have taken place without the many personal sacrifices that so many in our community and beyond made to help us through.
We would like to share with you a short documentary chronicling Ascension Public Schools' monumental year full of great challenges and greater successes. We look forward to building upon those successes with the start of the 2017-18 academic year and cannot wait to see students back in our schools on Wednesday!
